Meet Wendy

Hi, I’m Wendy — the heart behind The Hippo Shop!

My love for hippos began when I received a stuffed hippo for Christmas while I was in the 6th grade. He had a squeaky nose, a tiny knotted tail, and instantly became one of my favorite treasures. I still have him today, and he continues to remind me how something simple and whimsical can bring so much joy.

I was born in Africa, and over the years I’ve always felt a special connection to these magnificent animals. No matter what zoo I visit, the hippos are always my favorite stop. There’s just something about their playful personalities, enormous presence, and unexpected sweetness that makes me smile every time.

The Hippo Shop was created as a joyful place for fellow hippo lovers to find cute gifts, cozy apparel, whimsical accessories, colorful office goodies, and happy little treasures that brighten everyday life. Alongside the fun products, I also love sharing real hippo stories, zoo adventures, conservation efforts, and fascinating facts about hippos around the world.
